Statement of Commitment
This statement of commitment has been created to clearly define the heart and passion of the Choir & Orchestra, the expectations of the individual member and to state the musical and spiritual role of the Choir & Orchestra at Houston’s First Baptist Church.
As you prayerfully consider becoming a member of the C&O at Houston’s First, it is our hope that you understand that the commitment you are making is not one to be taken lightly but with great resolve to your personal role as well as the overall biblical vision of the FIRST|WORSHIP ministry in sacrifice, in service and in song.
I understand that my primary role as a Choir & Orchestra member is to be a leader in worship: both on and off platform. This commitment is one that will require sacrifice with my time, strength, energy, passion, and worship. I commit to being present during Wednesday night rehearsals, Sunday morning worship services, and other outside events including concerts, special weekend rehearsals or recordings, and other C&O events.
Therefore, like David in 1 Chronicles 21:24, I choose to offer the Lord that which costs me something and will gladly pour myself out like an offering unto the Lord Jesus Christ and His church.
I understand that the second role in the leadership of C&O is to have a heart of service for the Lord and the people of God. As Jesus is our greatest model, we are not called to be served but to serve (Matthew 20:28).
As this is seen both on and off platform, I commit to being a picture of leadership that loves first (1 John 4:19) and sets an example above reproach (Phillipians 2:15) for everyone that sees me in and outside of Houston’s First. I also acknowledge that my role in the C&O calls me to come ready to connect with the Lord and His bride, lead out in my commitment, as seen in this Statement, train all generations in worship and to communicate salvation to the lost, encouragement to the believer, and joy and passion to the world.
I affirm as it says in 2 Chronicles 16:9 that, “the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the whole earth, looking for a heart that is pure before him, so that He might show himself strong on their behalf.” Therefore I commit to come prepared with my heart, soul, mind, and strength (Deuteronomy 6:5) so that I am personally pure, equipped, and ready, so that combined with the other members of the C&O, God might work in and through us to show His power and glory.
I understand that part of the communication the C&O use to lead out in worship is through music and song. Therefore, I fully commit to strive for:
- Godliness – in my personal musical offering to the Lord
- Effectiveness – in my musicality by always making the focus centered on connecting to the people of God and to the Lord Jesus Christ
- Excellence – so that my passion and precision meet to offer the best I have to the Lord and always pushing myself to be better because God always deserves my best.
I commit to being a faithful and passionate Choir and Orchestra member and will always do my best to fulfill my calling as defined in this statement of commitment.
